For the many years that I have been attending Punahou, every carnival had something that was wrong about it. Most of the carnivals that I have attended either was very hot or rained for some part of the time that made the rest of the carnival hot and muggy. I guess all those carnivals were like that for a reason, to make this year the best one so far. This past carnival was perfect in every way that I can think of. First off, the weather was just amazing, blue skies, cool trade winds and no clouds to be seen. Secondly, working was loads of fun too because I got to work with my friends, work in the booth that I wanted to work in and choose the shift time I wanted. This carnival was also the best because I didn’t spend that much money as I did the years before. The past years I have spent over one hundred dollars on carnival and this year I spent between one hundred dollars or less. Overall this carnival had all the qualifications of a great carnival and I hope that the next carnivals are just as good or better.
Comment: I totally Agree. This years carnival was very good. I really thought the junior booth chairs were awesome. Especially in the Malasadas Ewa booth. They made everything super fun. Cool.

The Way Things Are
Sitting in the library, I was working on my common place book when one of my friends came by to see what I was doing. She seemed quite interested in the work that I was doing so she started to ask questions about it. Here are some of the questions that were asked.
Canon. What is your favorite entry?
Pentel. Hmm. My favorite entry would have to be one of the poems that I chose.
Canon. Why?
Pentel. Well, this poem is written by Elizabeth Quinn called “Life goes On“. I liked it as soon as I read it because it applies to an everyday life of a person. This poem talks about life never ending or stopping. It gives me a sense of direction that no matter what happens, life never stops for you. It tells you that you should not stay in one place, but you should move on. What I think this poem is trying to say is always live each day as if there was a purpose and never let one thing get you down for that day.
Canon. So you like this poem because of the message that is supposed to be sent through it?
Pentel. Yes, that is the reason.
Canon. What makes your commonplace book unique?
Pentel. Well I think that my commonplace book is unique because it is filled with many different topics that apply to a wide range of people. I have my original topics such as the Punahou Carnival and Fishing to my topics such as baseball games and logos. I also have a picture of a fish in my commonplace book, which describes me. It describes me because I like to be free in open spaces. Just like a fish, I enjoy to be in schools or I like to ride solo.
Canon. How much time do you spend on your commonplace book?
Pentel. Well, the time that I spend on my commonplace book varies on the topic that I am writing about. Usually I spend about half an hour to an hour on each entry. Sometimes I will spend more time on one, it just depends on the topic that I write about. For example, I probably spent an hour on the logos because it involved drawing and reasoning. On the other hand, I probably spent half an hour on the Punahou Carnival entry because the idea was fresh in my mind and I knew what I wanted to write about. In addition, I enjoyed writing about it.
Canon. Have you tried changing writing techniques?
Pentel. I have tried changing writing techniques, but it always seems to be like that previous entry. I am not sure why though; it just seems like it.
Canon. What do you find yourself writing most about?
Pentel. Let’s see, I think that I mostly write about things that I have been a part of. I think that I choose to write about these things because I have an interest in them and it makes it enjoyable to write about.
Canon. Is anything in your commonplace book personal?
Pentel. I have put things in my commonplace book that are not directly personal but things that I can relate to in a personal level.
Canon. When you say personal, what level of personal is it?
Pentel. It is a personal level, which has to do with relationship problems and deep emotions.
Canon. So what is the setting like when you write in your commonplace book?
Pentel. Usually, I am listening to music, lying down in my bed.
Canon. Do you think that this helps your thinking?
Pentel. I feel that when I am lying down listening to music I am relaxed, which gets me in the state of freethinking. Thus allowing me to be able to write down what ever comes to mind.
Canon. When do you write your commonplace book?
Pentel. I write my commonplace book whenever a topic comes to mind. I feel that it is essential to not rush a topic out of your head to just get the assignment done, but to let the topic come to mind. I feel this way because if you rush a topic then it will not be a topic that you have interest in writing. On the other hand, if you let the topic come to mind then it is a topic that interests you.
Canon. Well thank you for being a good sport and answering all my questions.
